Sounds like you have already been challenged. & as per your statement this is helpful. So I don't see how we can challenge you further....
The purpose of the exercise is to try, learn, & progress. You need to start it, & attempt it.
If you truly do not know where to start, then you need to speak with your instructor. We can't "get you started" if you don't even know the basics.

Learn How to use Employ OpenGl for these purposes.
Or you can try graphics.h for video and pixel editing on console.

well you could help by saying heres how you create a ppm image of a circle. that would help a ton and then I could actually use that to start figuring out how i'm going to do this. I really just need help to start thinking about how to tell the computer to make ppm images that are different then the squares and rectangles

Where in your project description does it ever mention creating a ppm image?
If you need further "challenge" I recommend you talk to your instructor. We have no idea what level of programmer you are, or what the instructor expects you to already know, etc., etc.

could someone please show me and/or tell me how i could make a ppm image of a circle. I would prefer to do this without using graphics.h or conio.h if possible. please explain how i could do this? my initial ideas were to use x =r*cos(theta) and the sine(theta for calculating y, but if someone could help me get a little bit furthur then this that would be helpful in knowing exactly how to put that idea into terms that the computer will understand. i'm not looking for code, just help to figure out how exactly to explain to the computer to print a circle. so just some ideas to get me started thinking, or a push in the right direction. thanks!!
