Lua is, as far as I know, only really used as an extension scripting language within programs. For example, as the scripting language in WoW.
However, I was wondering: Does anyone use Lua as the base language to create programs in? If so, examples? If not, ...why? I understand it's not as mainstream as, say, Java or C++, but its a very easy to pick up.
Just wondering.

I haven't used lua, but it's on my list of things to learn. I'd like to turn the question back at you, since if you know anything about the language you know more than I do. What sorts of applications would you think of creating in lua? What are its strengths, in your view?
After all, it's not what other people do that matters. It's what you do.

You can with enough effort turn a VW Beetle into an 18 wheeler.
But is it every really going to be right?
You can use a uni-cycle and a harness to take your kid to school - but is it what the tools were meant for?
