I would like to bring to notice the number of spam posts present in this forum(Introduce Yourself). Instead of introducing themselves, people give all sorts of malicious links which amount to spam.

I would like to ask the admin if we can devise some method to check the credentials of the people posting in this forum. Something like an IP address checker or something which detects the IP address of the people posting malicious links so that the next time the person posts from the same IP address, he is banned automatically.

I know that there are a lot of expert coders over here who can actually make it possible.So this is just a suggestion from my side.

@OP - yes, we do have something like that already in process as well as some preemptive spam filtering. Though, occasionally, the tide rises a bit higher than normal.

We flag as fast as we find them or as they are reported. I try and periodically clear out the spam queue to IP ban and blacklist the emails of the spammers. I did so this weekend, and again today. We only had 6 spammers in the queue today. Honestly, I'm not sure why Introduce Yourself gets slammed, as it isn't indexed in Google, and that's what spammers look for.

Where "Introduce Yourself" boards are fairly common on forums, I'm sure they're using an automated tool that specifically targets boards with that name.

So will changing the board name to "New members' Introduction" or something on the same lines which can't be indexed, help reduce the attacks?

I am just giving suggestions as I want to reduce the amount of spamming by these scumbags!!!

Personally, I think the team does an excellent job of quickly tagging spammers and deleting their posts. More often than not, in the time it takes me to refresh the page, someone has already come along and nailed the spam post. Spam happens and you'll be hard pressed to find a community with over 500K members where it doesn't.

We used to have a math problem that was required to be solved before members could post. Something like what is 10 + 10, but .... well, it filtered stupid too.

& then we had 'what sound does the animal make?', & again, stupid was kept out. Either people don't know accurate animal calls to animals (like duck goes quack), or again, they were posting numbers, ascii, names, or sometimes even cities. A duck does not go 'Dallas'.

So really you have to blame idiots that we allow to become members here, like gabehabe. It's his fault we can't have good filters.
