All in one for Ruby (for Mac OS)
Posted 30 June 2007 - 08:02 AM
Hope the topic description is doing its work because that's what I want: an all-in-one "programm". I am learning Ruby these days, Ruby, not RoR, and I would love to have an editor, compiler and interpreter mixed together. Any suggestions? Being free is a huge advantage, by the way!

I know you said you weren't developing in rails but locomotive will install everything, so even though it may say rails on it, it includes ruby (RoR, of course ruby is there), http://locomotive.raaum.org/. Here is another way to install ruby without rails http://www.sagework.com/node/45 . Ruby is an interpreter so it compiles on the fly so to run your program you just need to type ruby <filename>.rb (this should work if you have the paths set up right to the ruby.exe, etc...). As for an editor, any text editing program would work ,just use the one that came with your computer, or get textmate, which is really nice.
