Sleep and Caffeine

Posted 13 November 2012 - 12:52 PM

Hey DIC, I'm just your typical college student trying to get a degree while working on a research project for income.

I seem to have this problem where no matter how much sleep I get ( 6-9 hours a night ) and no matter how much caffeine I drink, be it coffee, pop, energy drinks, etc, I can't seem to stay awake. It's a bit of a problem when I have a busy schedule and have lots of projects to do.

Does this happen to anybody else? Can a person become immune to caffeine's affect on being tired?

Is This A Good Question/Topic? 0

It's a drug just like any other. Your body builds up a tolerance and it starts to take more and more and more to have the same effect.

Wonder why...

This probably also explains your habit of knocking things over with your knockers.

Change your diet.

Get off medicine and chemicals/drinks.

Exercise 2-3 times per week.

You can build a lot of energy...

You can also consult your doctor. I found out I had sleep apnea which caused me to be tired all the time. 9 hours of sleep and I would wake up feeling like shit and falling asleep in all of my classes.

Got surgery done for it and now I sleep like a baby. There are alternatives to surgery but I found it to be the best.

Also, a plus would be dreaming. I haven't dreamed in years and the doctors said it's expected to be very vivid for the first few nights, which was interesting. And now I dream every night so it's definitely pretty cool.

tl;dr, if you wake up feeling like shit, falling asleep all day, sore throat/snoring, and you don't dream, you may have sleep apnea.

caffeine doesn't seem to effect me at all; that said I had these little caffeine sugar mint(like Altoids but with caffeine) things and ate a whole tin of them at once and got pretty hyper. I also drank a energy drink in about 2 minutes(not trying to chug it; just drank it fast) once and my hands started to shake a bit later. So I suppose that higher rates and levels of consumption still effect me.
