Energy drinks make my sugar crash hard. I try to stay away from them :o

I'd gladly give up caffeine if I had anything else to keep me awake but it seems nothing beats a cup of coffee :P

I would suggest you to switch over to tea(green tea,red tea, milk tea).Tea has been proven to be good for health and gets rid of mental tiredness.

I love that the suggestion to switch to tea because it gets rid of mental tiredness ignores that it does this with caffeine and analogs to that chemical, in almost exactly the same way coffee gets rid of mental tiredness, with the exception that the analogs to caffeine don't make your hands shake in high doses the way caffeine does.

One: Caffeine does indeed create dependence.
Two: Its not good to switch over to perpetually taking energy drinks
Three: You probably have a massive sleep debt. Adults need 7-9 hours of sleep. A college student probably needs a lot closer to 9 hours of sleep.

hahahaha! Shirley, you can't be serious!

3.5 hours is an average night. 5 hours is a dream come true.

Coffee is my life blood.

"Sleep debt" is a weird idea. What kind of debt is it that doesn't accrue over time?
Under this theory I'd need to sleep about 1200 hours extra in 2013, just to make up my accumulated sleep debt from 2012 alone... never mind the accumulated interest from all the years that I've been going on 4 hours per night. Bah, sleep your life away if you want. I'll be up reading.

Well, if I didn't take anything to sleep, I'd only get about 30-60 mins at a time, wake up tossing and turning, and etc. I feel a lot more rested taking a sleep aid, and more energetic in the morning, because instead of waking up about 10 times per night, it's 0-1 times. And today I tried some new tea I just bought, and I don't know if it was the tea, or the fact that compared to yesterday I feel fabulous, but I had a totally awesome day and was full of energy. I busted my ass pulling wire, was in a good mood, and other fabulous things. lol. I'm just gonna blame the tea. ;) Also, after this week, I'm going to try to quit the 5 hour energy.

You can also consult your doctor. I found out I had sleep apnea which caused me to be tired all the time. 9 hours of sleep and I would wake up feeling like shit and falling asleep in all of my classes.

Got surgery done for it and now I sleep like a baby. There are alternatives to surgery but I found it to be the best.

Also, a plus would be dreaming. I haven't dreamed in years and the doctors said it's expected to be very vivid for the first few nights, which was interesting. And now I dream every night so it's definitely pretty cool.

tl;dr, if you wake up feeling like shit, falling asleep all day, sore throat/snoring, and you don't dream, you may have sleep apnea.

Just highlighting this. If you get plenty of sleep and still feel like shit all day, you probably have sleep apnea. Surgery isn't the only or even the first option. There's also CPAP machines, which is likely what a doctor would prescribe you. It's worth looking into. Go to a sleep specialist. Insurances should cover it.
