The numbness and tingling you describe sounds exactly like Carpal tunnel syndrome. It can get serious if you don't correct it early (can need surgery to fix it if it gets bad).

You can have the doctors check for it-- I did it before. It's pretty epic how they test for it.

It's not carpal tunnel. Carpal tunnel comes from the wrist. I have that on my right side - I use a brace for it when it acts up. This is coming from the left elbow... cubital tunnel syndrome, I believe is a more accurate description.

As it turns out, what is actually wrong is called Ulnar nerve entrapment. Apparently, there is a nerve in my left elbow that has become pinched due to my constant leaning on it - leaning on my desk at work, leaning on the table at home, leaning on the arm of the recliner to read, leaning on the arms of chairs in meetings, leaning on the door handle while driving. Apparently I'm a leaner.
Ok... I really gotta try and stop doing that now. I'm almost always doing the same exact thing.

Just an update on this condition which I've been told effects 1 in 150 people - mostly computer nerds....
The physical therapy things work REALLY well -- IF you can stop yourself from leaning on your elbow. I am having issues with this.
It has improved enough to now alternate between normal and pins and needles, but the moment I lean on my elbow, I get a shooting pain all the way through my fingertips that lasts for up to 10 minutes. The two effected fingers shake a little most of the time and twitch a bit on occasion.
Because the therapy IS working, the docs have opted to avoid surgery for the time being, but I now have a lovely elbow brace that I have to wear at night to keep my arm straight. They want me to wear it 24/7, but let's face it... I don't exactly work in a field that allows me to NOT use one of my arms for extended periods of time. I DO wear the brace for meetings, but I can't do my job adequately without bending both arms... which then leads to leaning on my elbow, which leads to shooting pain and twitchy fingers...
Seriously, kids, if you're leaners, STOP IT! Take a lesson from an old lady and keep your elbows up!

Usually physical therapy helps, a lot. Also, usually when you see a limb being numb like your you should definitely see a doctor. I had some problems with my back, I couldn't even move after some big effort and I started doing some back exercises the next 3 weeks and now I am fine and dandy.

I've never such an issue as that, but may I recommend a hot bath?
Call me feminine if you must, but I've noticed a hot bath fixes everything, even computers.

Not entirely sure what a hot bath would do to an entrapped nerve as typically ice and anti-inflammatories are called for to reduce swelling... rather than the heat of a hot bath or warm compress. Heat, as we should all know, causes things to expand - not really the effect I'm going for here. Call me masculine, but I think your bath idea would have a negative effect.

you need to switch to your other hand when masterbating if your normal hand keeps going numb. Or you can just pretend it's someone else doing it for you.
