Typically I just refresh the 'view new posts' from the user's drop down menu. It shows threads I commented on and any new replies since.

Amen to that. It was really a sight to behold...my mobile phone vibrating its way off the table and into my bag(Thank God)

Well that's cute, I didn't realize they were queueing all the messages. So the issue was our mail provider suspended the account after a recent rash of spam posts. They detected all the spammy URLs and put a hold on the account until they could verify things. After confirming everything, I guess they opened up the flood gates.

Do we need to take a more active role to prevent spam posts?
New user posts are automatically not approved for example, reducing the email notifications until they have been set to approved status.
