Offices are boring. Normally, I share my office with my henchman, but neither of us are full-time so we only really see each other one day a week. To try and make the day go a bit faster, we tend to leave each other notes/drawings/etc. One time I even had a treasure hunt to do, and it took me over an hour to find the reward (chocolate).

We can't be the only ones.. what helps you guys get through the day?

We also like to have fun with the IT office up the road from where we work. Recently posted this through their door, they still don't know who did it. (We've both done some freelance for them, we're not just pranking strangers)

I reach work at 10 a.m. and login to d.i.c and stay logged on till 8 p.m. Other than that, I browse wikipedia, wikiquote, 27bslash6, reddit, have email wars with friends, and somehow still manage to get my work done come deadline.

I have Peggy.

Peggy, for those who don't hang on my every word over on Facebook, is our press release/communications lady. She is roughly 4'9", maybe 90 pounds on a fat day, and 75 years old. She works part-time here doing the press thing and part-time as a yoga instructor. She is my partner-in-crime.

While there are many Peggy stories, this one is by far my favorite:

There is a gigantic apple tree out my office window. Every year around August, Peggy starts sneaking out the side door to stock up on delicious and otherwise unused apples. This year, however, the bulk of the apples were out of her reach, so she asked me in all my tallness to assist her in getting apples.

What our boss saw as she came down the glass hallway on the other side of the tree was Peggy filling a grocery bag with free produce while sitting quite comfortably on my shoulders.

I fucking love Peggy.

What sort of volume does that tree produce? If you've got someone with a cider press in the neighborhood, you could be looking at a few gallons of grade-A alkyholical beverage and still have plenty left for baking and eating and such like.

EDIT: One-track mind? Yes. Is that a problem?

You leave your computer unattended, and suddenly when you compile you realize that your coworkers decided to stick "I should close up my computer" sneakily throughout your code.

Also, airsoft rifles that are now banned in the office.

My favorite though is when I was late one day, super late, I come in and sit down and start coding. A little bit later, my managers come over, super serious expressions on their faces as they set down a piece of paper on my desk saying I got to sign here due to my tardiness, and that it'll be on my record for future decisions regarding my employment.

I immediately apologised over and over, telling them the whole story as to why I was late which involved amish carriages and farming trucks, and they just listened to it with somber expressions till I got to the end where they decided to crack up laughing.

We have unlimited sick days and for some reason I fell for a tardiness slip.

I don't know if any of you Windows users have ever played with any of the sysinternals tools, but there's a lot of cool stuff in there. One of my favorites, though, is a BSOD screen saver. Always a good prank if someone leaves their computer unlocked and unattended.

Best gag I ever pulled was on an old co-worker. They stepped out for a 2hr meeting and left their computer unattended Me being the good samaritan that I am, walked over to lock it up for them, buuutttttttttt, not before a few modifications

Performed a print screen of his Desktop and then placed every one of his icons into a neat little folder hidden on his drive, then set the print screen as his Desktop wallpaper After a few hours of watching him click/hit/reboot his computer trying to figure out what happened and why his icons weren't working, he stalked outside for a smoke break, at which point, all was returned to normal


Besides that, I can't count all the times I would prank my buddy Ryan during Graphic Design/Linux Administration

One place I worked temporarily was a help desk. I wasn't involved in this, but one guy walked away and left his computer unlocked. Another agent went over and spent 30 minutes writing up a review of his favorite cheese, then sent it out to the entire IT department from the guy's mailbox.

I also did something similar to AnalyticLunatic at school. One of my first courses was an intro to computers class, retarded. It was seriously one of those "this is a mouse. This is how you click" classes. I was, needless to say, bored the entire time. I sat down one day, took a screenshot of the desktop and set it as the background. I hid all the icons in a folder, naturally, removed the recycle bin, auto-hid the taskbar and moved it to the top of the screen, then switched the language to Dvorak.

The school reformatted the computer rather than try to fix it. I laughed so hard.

One of our profs left his computer unlocked a few years back. One of his students happened upon it and sent out the message "I'm a sexy monkey!" to the entire faculty, staff, and student population on campus.

The poor guy still hasn't lived it down. They all call him "monkey" as he walks down the hall.

One of my colleagues left his computer unlocked. So, my friend used the screen saver type Marquee display and typed the following message.

"Hello there! I am a careless fool for leaving my computer unlocked"

Imagine the look on his face when he comes back and sees the above message floating on his screen!!!

After that incident, he always double checks if he has locked his computer
