My first real site.

Posted 21 November 2012 - 01:28 AM

This is my first site. A friend came to me with a business idea and asked if I could make him a super simple site. This is what I came up with. I'm currently redesigning it to what I think would be nice for it.

oldeworldovens.com

Thanks,
gr0z

Hello gr0z

I find the following very appealing in your site.

1.The 'Begin Your journey' is a really nice way to lead the user into your page.
2.Nice pictures in appropriate places which give the user a nice idea of the product.
3.Big font so the user will not have to strain his eyes too much to read.

Now, here are some small suggestions that I would like to give you which will probably make your site better.

1.The 'Contact us' tab is always placed in the last, if you consider any website. You may want to look into that.
2. The FAQ section seems to have a long paragraph...but as the name suggests 'Frequently Asked Questions'...you would probably like to frame a few questions that you have been asked and give the answers to them.
3. I don't know if it was just me, but I found the white text in the black background a bit jarring to the eyes. You may want to look into that aspect of allowing a soothing feeling to the eyes.

Apart from that, a very well done site and here's wishing all the very best to your friend for his business :)

regards,
Raghav

The main page- bland.. way too much so. Throw a product image on there!

Why do I have to 'begin your journey' to get any information? Why not make that first page the 'home' page.. and throw it in a the menu with the rest of the pages?

As for this image:

Did you get permission to use it from foodarts?

It seems this image http://oldeworldoven...-pizza-oven.jpg can be found:

Are there any non-jacked images?

The contact page - why isn't there a contact form?

Over all it's a pretty amature site. Plain white text centered over a boring gray brick background leaves much to be desired... as is a few clicks to even get into the site.

Raghav
Thanks for the feed back. The new site is going to have all of those changes. I had no clue about the Contact tab. For the FAQ page we are still coming up with questions and answers.

Thanks for the feedback. How did you find out the images were on different sites? We have no pictures of our products yet seeing that it's a new business so we kinda had to steal images until we get our own. I didn't even think about a contact form! haha. I am a amateur so I expect that from people. I'm still learning and getting better.

Thanks VERY much,
gr0z

Really? Not one example of a working product? Plans? Nothing? I mean has anyone actually built an oven that works there? It seems at least some attempt might have been made, but I may be looking at this all backwards.

Oh ok, that's cool. Is there certain software or a tool or something you use?

Lol. No not at all. It was just a idea and he asked if I could make a site for him. He gave me all the content and the pictures I pretty much just formatted it and did the CSS. He has plans for it but no pics of the plans. HE has one built at his house. I don't think he would want to use that as a pic for the site because it's very crude.

You could give a hint. Couldn't you?

Could I maybe google "reverse image lookup" and that give an idea?
Or something of that nature? :)
