So it seems that when you edit a post that has an emoticon in it a '/>' is added after. If you edit 3 times, 3 are added

it gets added in the actual editor and then when I post it it is displayed that way.

Yup, emoticons were also replaced inside code tags even before this bug, it wasn't just this visible. (It was reported some time ago). But it did break some code.

is there an option to disable emoticons by default (that would solve a lot of such problems)?

another problem is that words in Text and code (and that’s a real problem in case-sensitive languages) is automatically converted to lowercase (except for the initial). like when you write Java​Script, it ends up as Javascript.

I don't see an option to disable emoticons by default, but you can stop it showing any sort of images in posts, including the emoticon images. Of course, that solves very little because it's just replaced by the text, which will also be trailed by the added /> chars. You'll just end up with something like: ":)/>"


That thing about Java​Script always annoyed me, because it's actually supposed to be mixed case, with the "Script" part starting with a upper-case "S".

I would have to use the extended editor to begin with and set the option, but that would defeat the quick reply completely.

What I am talking about there is an option the user control panel, in the Forum preferences.



It covers all posts, not just those you post.

the problem is that it doesn’t solve the problem (as you can see), plus it also disables inline images that are posted in web dev questions that I would normally see as additional resource inside the post (it might not be that much of a problem in other forums, but webdev live from it).

emoticons are just buggy

edit: the "expression" bug where tags would get added in the middle of "expression" seems to be fixed.
