Your Nerderrific Idols
Posted 27 November 2012 - 12:34 PM
Sorry I've been absent in the lounge as of late (doubtful anyone missed me, though, as I haven't been around too long). I guess I just feel obligated to live up to my Lounge Lizard badge I was granted one bright, sunny day.
So my question of the day is this: what nerdy/geeky/tech-wizard/scientist idols do you look up to?
I guess mine would have to be Richard Feynman (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Richard_Feynman). Not only was he a rockstar of a physicist (Nobel Prize, Feynman diagrams, anyone?) but he was a character that spoke his mind and graded his papers in a topless bar. I actually don't like topless bars (in practice, anyway), but I respect the man for going against the grain on that one (breaking the nerdy scientist stereotype), especially in a more conservative time.
I also read in a book of his where he bashed IQ tests and made the point that there are so many other things that contribute to success and intelligence than the horsepower of the CPU on your brain. I feel like he gives norms like me more hope!
So, who do you look up to/respect/idolize?
For your information, Albert Einstein is a close, close, second. I think I just identify with Feynman more.

Also, I am not being cheesy about this, so quit reading here if you're allergic to cheesy, but I used to look up to my boyfriend back before he became my boyfriend.

Those badges indicate that I was special enough to participate as both a guest and an audience member on DIC-TV. They have nothing to do with my own personal facial hair. STOP MAKING ASSUMPTIONS.

Tesla is another awesome one. Did you ever read The Oatmeal's write-up/comic on Tesla? So. Awesome.
