Hey guys!
So I'm working on the sign up pieces of my site and I'm trying to figure out the best way to segment users by interest. My initial thought was to create a list of group types and let them pick but I don't want to limit the users. The flip side of this is me letting the user enter in their own group name. I could use some jQuery to help the user see other groups with similar names but I wouldn't really be able to create a relationship between certain groups. (ie One user types "Finance" and the other user types "Accounting")
So, I was wondering what the other possibilities are. One I've considered is having the user pick a group then list a sub group. So they could pick "Finance" as the main group from my global list and enter "Accounting" as their sub group. At least this way I could group sub groups with a high-level relationship of some sort..
I'm just looking for some feedback if anyone has faced a similar issue.
As always, thanks in advance!!

Maybe you're looking for tags rather than groups?
