What I really want to see is somebody with the last name Knight, naming their kid 'Dark'.

I was so happy wit my name, no nicknames and stuff. That until a genius teacher said in front of the class that my family name is actually the name of a fish... Yeah, thank you very much for that...

Ethylene is a pretty name.

What's wrong with weird names?

Frank Zappa named his kids Dweezil, Moon Unit, Ahmet, and Diva.

Or Penn Jilette with his kid Moxie Crimefigheter and Zolten.

My girlfriend and I like the name Whittaker Bastard *surname*. Witty bastard for short. And Q for a girls name... not sure for a middle name though (note my girlfriend's name is V, though she didn't make the connection until I had pointed it out to her).

I liked strange names until I actually had kids and had to choose the lesser of two evils for a last name (ultimately, they have their father's, not mine - better something no one can spell or pronounce than something about an anus). So they have very normal first names.

Once upon a time, I would have named them Zebani and Ginesyka. Instead, they are Rachel and Ellen. I'm happy with my choices.

A buddy of mine in HightSchool was going to name his son Ashley from Army of Darkness. No questions asked! He wound up with a really pretty girl after high school. Years later they married, & one day, very excitedly he told me he was having a son.

I asked if he held his ground, he just smiled & said she disagreed with his choice of name. lol

That's why I like my girlfriend. Our taste's in things like that tend to overlap.

For instance when we started dating she said to me, "If you ever buy me a diamond anything, I'll shank you."

(I hate diamonds, not even on a 'blood diamond' level. I just find them pointless and overrated hunks of carbon)

My mom wanted to name me Desiree, but due to tradition she was gently convinced by my father to name me after his mother (actually her nickname rather), so I got Athena instead. I high-fived my father when I found out. ^_^

My godchild's name is Anatahlia, I actually rather like it. :) Googled it and came up with little, so not very common.

Typically my family is stuck with the names Eva, Kostas, Katarina, George (female version and male), and Phillip. >_> Darn tradition!

I don't hate diamonds, but I'm not a fan of jewelery in general. It's all overrated and pointless. I'm not a Christmas tree. I don't need gaudy, blingy ornamentation.

Once or twice a year, I might wear a necklace or earrings for a special occasion, but even then, I'd rather leave the baubles at home.

<edit - on topic>

My parents debated between naming me Gilda after my grandmother or Jeri after my grandfather. To this day, no one knows how my biological mother managed to settle on Linda. Guess I'll never know... but given the alternatives, it was a far better choice.

I bet they are happy with your choices too :)

Two of my friends have a daughter which they named Lillith Alithea. It's cruel of me to say it, I know, but I kinda hope she grows up with a lisp.

My name isn't so bad. No-one could think of anything offensive which rhymes with my surname, so the worst I got was being named after Barry Manilow, and other famous Barrys from the 80s.

Add over-active hair follicles plus lactose intolerance... and you become "Hairy Barry can't eat dairy." Just sayin'.

Well, I'm not lactose intolerant, and the hair follicles on my head are lazy, but the rest of them work well. Too well if you catch sight of me walking naked through some woods. Damned Sasquatch spotters...

I said I was sorry. (But at least there weren't any bad effects from the tranquilizers, right?)
