Am i in the right place ?

Posted 30 November 2012 - 02:55 AM

Hello everyone !! Well i will try to be short, i dont really know what would be the most suitable job for me to do but i find programming very intrguing so i studied hard and managed to get to an Electrical and Computer Engineering department..But as i slowlly realise there are litle subjects related with computers in the first years ...( for example in my curent semester i have only one subject related with computers !) So i start wondering if i am on the right place or i should consider of changing university department.

Thanks in advance for your help :D

You can change to Software Engineering. Computer Science is more theoretical. Or move out of the country.

What college? Can you link to the curriculum page for your major? You should be able to eyeball everything when you started to get a feel for what the major consists of.

In my experience along with my friends, the first year of computer science I had only 1-2 computer courses a term. 12 credits being full time 21 being the max to take, I took 18.5 and 7 of which were computer courses. I also am in the college of engineering so I ended up taking a lot of math, science, and some general classes like english. My second year started to become more major related and now on my third it is almost completely computer related courses. I am also on a 5 year program and obviously every college is different. I would suggest talking to the head of the department and your adviser. Didn't you look into this when applying?

Major.. as in what the degree is in. Typically you get a major and can tack on a minor or three.

Yeah - look at this course out line... that's shows the EE side of things.

It sounds like if you want programming you want to be in the 'Department of Computer Engineering and Informatics'.

I am not one to tell someone they screwed up in college, but if you want to be a programmer you are in the wrong college. You need to flip to the Computer Engineering one.

shows all your classes. That looks very similar to our Electrical Engineer course work just different titles of classes. Usually before going to a University you compare programs.

EDIT: lol same link modi

Ah, no. You should have compared classes. Sure they some what over lap in some areas, but one degree doesn't subsume another.
