Hi,
Alright, so I have to develop a Personal Portal for my final year project mainly based on PHP. I would like to ask you guys a few questions regarding the system I'm building and the method I am using.
First, what language is the most suitable for this kind of development? I'm just doing PHP plus some JS for the dynamic stuff because I know PHP has the ability to connect to database to do the basic CRUD things. Plus, I've learned it before. How about a framework? Is there any out there that provides Personal Portal + PHP that I can use so that I don't have to build it from scratch, which will make my task easier?
I'm thinking of taking the concept of Windows 8 Metro UI as the main interface of my portal. Of course, users can personalized it later on. But the core of the interface idea is the Metro. Is it appropriate for me to use it for this kind of system?
If you have any resources that I can read, kindly put the link in the reply.
Thanks

Intranet or not, it's just a website, it's only that people from intranet would be able to use it. So use whatever framework you're familiar with.
The real question is - what is it going to be? What's the use of it?

Well users can add their items in their personal profile such as todo lists, calendar, favorite links, university online applications etc. Admin can publish announcements regarding the website and faculty news too.
Oh all of that can be put in portlets.
@Xupicor
It is a personal portal so it is kind of like a personal blog but with portlets where users can add their fav. links or stuff in it. This is for my department.
