JavaScript in the Java Forum

Posted 09 July 2007 - 05:05 PM

So, I just got back from the Java Forum and saw a Javascript problem. That problem has been moved to the right forum, but since I've seen this more than a couple of times I want to make a suggestion:
In the Java Forum Rules there should be couple of lines which would explain to the reader of the rules that Java is not same with Javascript.
Those lines can be added in the Javascript Forum Rules as well.
Just a suggestion that's all.

Is This A Good Question/Topic? 0

That's all well and good, but there are and always will be idiots who never read where to put things. So if they don't bother with reading the forum names, rules, etc., why would they read what forum is for what in that forum?

It's a sad fact. :(

OK, but I still think that those lines of text should be in the forum rules, instead of explaining every time to that member that Java is not same with Javascript we'll just point them to the rules.

I think writing something like:

Quote

Java is not Javascript

is quicker then referring to the rules :)
Actually I could imagine a feature for experts, mentors and upwards so that you could store some custom frequently used posts, like:
Java is not Javascript
Read the rules before posting.
Please provide the errormessages.
Show your code/some effort before asking for help.
etc. you know what I am getting at, and these could be selected from a combo box while posting or even before that.

Maybe with some sign/signature that would show that it is a half-auto reply, so the poster might realize that he made some common mistake, and might actually read the rules. I know it's only wishful thinking, but maybe...

That is very interesting. I like the idea with the combo box, like we just choose for example Java is not Javascript which would be linked to a page where the explanation would be, something like:
Hello you've made a common error which is so common that if I were you I would do a Bungee jump without the rope :D or something like that :P
No, seriously though I think it's a great idea.
