End of Programming?
Posted 04 December 2012 - 05:08 AM
Just recently, I had a conversation with my dad over Programming without Coding techniques. If you don't know, this software helps you create programs with very little or even no need of learning a language. Currently, it is not that useful, but as this software develops, won't it make more sense that people will use such software instead of learning languages? Granted that this is very nice for new starts, and can help people with developing their Ideas, does this mean that soon coding can become obsolete?
Other software exist too, like ArgoUML, Rational Rose and Visual Paradigm.
This is just an opinion thread, I just want to see what people may say.

I would extend this and say "human problem solving". Look at all the pre-gen coding platforms out there.. wix.com, rpgmakerweb.com, and the like. They have a super narrow band of niche areas they can create - but most of the time it is boiler plate and lacks innovation. By creating these predefined worlds you are binding people to them with no ability to go outside the box.
That may work for some, but for progress or a moderately difficult problem you cannot be hampered by this artificial yoke.
That and it feels like people are becoming less creative as a whole (more likely they don't care as much about creating a solution to a problem). Solutions are less orientated and it is just more consume this, watch that, but don't fret about making something.

2) UML is not a visual programming language, it's a visual modeling language. It can not create any code. There is a way to template out classes based on a UML layout, but you still need to go in and write the implementation.

Are you speaking of Lieutenant Commander Data from St:NG? If so then you are sorely wrong sir. It was determined by the historical future-logsp he was a sentient being.
