This is a really slick project!

I love it so much already because I can seamlessly switch between email accounts with a click of a button. I have about four emails. One personal, three for work, and I absolutely need to be able to easily switch from account to account. Alto does just that for me! It's amazing!

I love how the email portion takes up the entire page real estate and easy to read. This is in closed beta at the moment, I really hope this catches on and they can create a better calendar, an integrated chat client that doesn't suck, and more.

Anybody else in the private beta? What are you thoughts on it so far?

I haven't heard anything about it until now. Is it a desktop client or web based (I am assuming web based)?

I agree that it looks like quite the slick design based on the screen above. I may have to try it out when it opens up or I get an invite (however they do that); I don't believe that I currently have an AOL account anyways.

It's 100% web based, and you don't need an AOL account. So far you can use any gmail, yahoo, aol and iCloud email address and switch on the click of an icon.

Now that does sound quite nice. I have a yahoo and 2 gmail addresses (as well as a school address and 1 for work) that I would like to manage under the same place (but currently don't) so I could stop forwarding things all over the place.

Quite intriguing.

This is why I use Outlook as I can do everything you can in Outlook. The only thing I refuse to do is pay Yahoo to be able to link it to my Outlook.

I just get all my personal email delivered to my phone - my gmail account and my personal URL account (I'd like to have an @dreamincode.net account... but I put that request in YEARS ago to no avail... at least I still have my shirt... and I still don't believe the mousepads are real...).

The only thing I don't get on my phone is my work email... because fuck them. If I'm not at work, I don't want to read work email. If it's important, they'll call and tell me to check my email. Even if it's not important, they'll sometimes call and tell me to check my work email.

My work now reimburses me for my phone bill (an will reimburse me up to $250 every two years for a new phone), so I have to get mail on my phone. Because it's Exchange, it means I have to have a password on my phone. Still debating whether it's worth the pain in the arse to have a password on my phone.

I have a password on my phone to keep my kids out of it... but work doesn't reimburse me for my phone, the 4am text messages, or the home/mobile internet connection I am required to have. It would be nice if they'd offer though!

We really just lucked out. The home office decided to test the feasibility of switching from company-issued Blackberry's to a reimbursement program. My boss suggested that IS and IT would be perfect to beta company email on iOS and Android, so we were the first ones to set up email on non-Blackberry phones. IT was always issued phones, but development wasn't. After a successful testing phase, when it came time to roll it out, our boss was able to slide us in since we had already been using our personal phones for work for several months.

Just the luck of the draw. At a current remote position I work at my company is paying extra so I can get a 2mbps connection because the app we are working on network-heavy.

I used to download at 60kbps.

Now I download at 180kbps, so it's a very welcome change.
