I am attempting to add a 2D Sprite into a 3D World. I did some research, and found Point Sprite, but it looks like it was discontinued. What do you recommend? I do not even know if point sprite is what I want. I would like to be able to have 3D objects, but to also be able to mix in 2D sprites. I would like the sprite to face the user (should always be flat I think) and be scaled to match with the 3D objects.

Since you want the 2d sprite to always face the camera, I'd suggest you look into billboarding. Riemer's even has a section on it in his advanced tutorial series. Billboarding is basically just dropping in 2D graphics in a 3D environment and ensuring that they always face the direction of the camera. It's easy to tell when something is just a billboard, but it can save a lot of time and effort making 3D models for something that just doesn't really need to be 3D.
EDIT: Here's a link to the Riemer tutorial that I mentioned.
