Anybody seen it yet? I went on Saturday and I LOVED it. Also, I'm gonna be blasphemous and say that I liked it more than the original three. Thorin was badass, Gandalf was awesome, the humor was good, the action great and the "Lonely Mountain" song is now my ringtone. I'm planning on going again this Saturday.
I couldn't believe the roar from the crowd when the first "Yeeeeeesssss, preciousss" was heard. Had no idea Bangalore was that into the Lord of the Rings... Gives us hope, it does.
P.S. Dont watch the 3D version. Its not worth the extra money.

Yes, I saw it on Friday and loved the scenes of Erebor in its grandeur. Del Toro did a good job capturing what I saw when I rolled the multi-sided die oh so many years ago.

The owner of the couch that I'm crashing on for the time being saw it this weekend with his girlfriend and he didn't know that this was just the first part of another trilogy. He was quite surprised.

Was that a mis-statement and you meant Peter Jackson? Or did Del-Toro actually play a part in making this?

del toro was the director for a little while but eventually dropped out (probably wanted to play in his own sandbox instead of someone elses, which seems reasonable. and since his sandbox is pacific rim and that looks BADASS, i'm all for it) jackson ended up signing back up for all the hobbitses.
it's the first one i haven't seen at midnight, let alone opening weekend. i hope to catch it sometime this week.

supersloth is right on about that... thought there's a bit of a 'hellboy2' vibe in the goblin kingdom.. heh.

considering del toro was on board for a lot of the pre-production stuff i wouldn't doubt you could see his involvement on screen in the character designs at all.

Yup.. and you are right - Pacific Rim looks bad ass!
Any thoughts on Tommy Cruise's "Oblivion" movie?

No.. yes.. sort of. It was _a_ book they decided to make in to three movies.

They've taken the book and made a trilogy of it. Next up, the nine-part adaptation of Farmer Giles of Ham.
Read the book. Infinitely better than any movie.
