i click apache/
an error pops up in the control panel saying i should refer to error.log for a 'clue'
i used to install apache and it would say it works! when i tested it
ive installed it many times over the past week for no avail any clues? help me help you...thanks...

ps i cant even see the local host page...and i was just using it 2 DAYS AGO! i did change my user account control settings

for windows...but i changed them back to default and its still acting up...

any clues? thanks..

important because an activted user account control (uac) on your system some
functions of xampp are possibly restricted. with uac please avoid to install
xampp to c:\program files (x86) missing write permissions). or deactivate uac
with msconfig after this setup.

this was the pop up i received directly after installing it so i changed the uac settings under msconfig

i think its port 80? i think there was another one also (i just uninstalled it yet again sigh...) is there something i can change regaurding that thanks.

Ok, so your port is correct...basically port 80 is for web servers. Are you sure you are not running IIS on the same port?

i haven't installed iis to my knowledge...ive even tried a system restore after i downloaded some videogames in case that was the problem but it still wouldnt start/ maybe i should install it in a different location other than c

or maybe a manual install? thanks for the help btw...

isnt there a checlist of sorts to make sure i can install everything ok...

you maybe right though...i feel there is a conflicting program...

any tips before installing again ?

Well, try out the following steps.

Step 1. download xampp server to run php and mysql from the below link.

1) Download the zip,
2) Unzip and place in C:
3) Open c/xampp/xampp_controll.exe
4) Start Mysql, Apache
5) Open browser
6) Type http://127.0.0.1 (xampp default page opens)
7) Successfully installed xampp server

Step 2. Download fresh copy of cakephp 1.3 and unzip and place it in C:\xampp\htdocs

i fixed it, i just selected a different destination for the download (desktop)

i guess dl in the same place over and over clogged the ports?

back to my origianl problem
im testing a very very simple hello world page and it echos

im saving it in htdocs and everything...under local hist the php status says activated any tips? thnaks

In your main url, you need to type...

http://localhost/your_foldername/program_name.php

Hope this works...and one more thing...please call me Raghav and not by my surname

Edit: Haha...sometimes these mistakes occur...glad you could solve the problem
