See any good movies recently?

Posted 19 December 2012 - 08:44 PM

So after a drought of seemingly bad movies, there have been a boom of movies that are actually pretty good. Have you seen any of them?

I've recently seen Looper, Life of Pi, and The Perks Of Being A Wallflower.

Looper was pretty good. Decently entertaining.

Life of Pi was visually stunning. People were comparing it to Avatar, I think it's way above that. It was also a very good story. If you like good movies, and/or you like visually-appealing movies, this one will blow you away.

The Perks Of Being A Wallflower was AMAZING. I absolutely loved the book and I loved the movie. They really did a good job with turning the book into a movie and I think they hit what they were aiming for.

So what movies have you seen recently? What'd you think of them?

I saw The Hobbit and was rather disappointed with it. I liked the book for its wonderful literary value as well as being short, but unfortunately, the Hobbit added too many plot elements NOT present in the book for me. Though to be fair, the trilogy cut too much stuff out, which stinks just as much.

I also thoroughly enjoyed Perks of Being a Wallflower. I also liked Lawless a lot when it came out.

Where's the fun in that? You have to at least let it derail into a gun control debate first!

I meant movies with good cinematography. I'm not a fan of the "guys look at what I can do in After Effects!" movies.

I've seen Intouchables recently and it was a good movie from my point of view.
Not really 2012 new but still a good movie.

It's been awhile since I went to see an actual "new" movie in the theater. If I recollect correctly, the last one was Lawless, which I enjoyed ^^ That's my Heritage.

I've heard countless people comment about the book of Perks of Being A Wallflower, so might check out the movie. Sinister looked alright, but haven't seen it. Wasn't sure about Life of Pi, but keep hearing good things.

Unless it's a date, I don't usually go to the movies other than for a new Fast & Furious (tradition with my Dad, he used to pick me up from school and we'd go see it in the afternoon when everyone else is working, so it was always like our own private theater :D)

Sadly the last movie I saw was the last Twilight movie with my wife. It was a lot of talking and needed more action for me, but I guess the movie was not really made for me.

There are a bunch of movies out on video that I want to see so maybe next week I can watch some while I am on vacation.

The last movie I saw in a theater is Baby Mama with my lady. Although there is a good chance we will break streak and go with her parents to see The Hobbit on Dec 25th.

Looper impressed me. In spite of big names and big media, it actually felt like a well done indie. I looked up the director/writer. He had a single vision and managed to get it on screen, which explains a lot. He also metions Primer when explaining his work, which amused me. ( Now that IS a little, indie, time travle flick. )

Saw The Hobbit yesterday... um, as a stand alone movie I enjoyed it. As an effort to bring a novel to the screen, it's definitely a "based on" kind of thing. My only real probablem is that Bilbo shouldn't be an action hero. If Alice had gone to Wonderland with Ninja training, it wouldn't have been half as charming.
