How to use a python IDE and help with graphics

Posted 20 December 2012 - 03:11 PM

I only know one semester of Java, as i am a first year computer science major. However, I need to learn how to use python for another project that I want to work on. I have tried downloading several IDEs, like Pycharm and Aptana Studio 3, ut i dont know how to use them! I tried downloading the python interpreter thing for eclipse, but now my eclipse wont even open, I have a Mac with OS 10.6.8 and the version of eclipse i had (which i was using for java) is 3.8. I download python 2.7 and 3.3 to use with eclipse, but eclipse refuses to open at all now.
Pycharm you have to pay for, so I dont know what to do once my evalution period is over, and even then, i dont understand how to use graphics with python!
Aptana Studio3 im guessing needs something else to run programs, because every time I try to run something on it, i dont get to see the output at all.

Basically, i'm a stupid freshman who is way over her head!

Do you have Python actually installed? If you do, you should be able to find IDLE. Search for it on your PC. It's somewhere C -> Python3 -> .... (i think, not entirely sure).

There you will have a REPL as well as ability to run scripts.

python.org for more help.
google.com for even more help.

Are you talking about making a gui? I'd use google or one of the tutorials on here about tkinter. There's also pygame, wxpython, and more that you could look up regarding making guis. Best of luck

edit: if you don't mind sharing, what are you thinking about creating?

I actually use IDLE 90% of the time, it's fine for most applications. As for your project, make a new thread about it if you want to discuss it further, it sounds right up my alley! :)
