What's your favorite HTML text editor / IDE?

Posted 24 December 2012 - 04:52 AM

I was wondering what text editor or IDE you use to work on your sites. I personally prefer Notepad++. Sublime Text 2 is an EPIC contender as a personal favorite, but it has a few stuff that annoys me (like the way the sidebar looks when I have a light-colored theme). I wish both had auto-close for tags as soon as I finish typing the opening tag (or do they have that feature and I'm just not aware yet?).

Komodo Edit is also pretty good for me, though I wish it did a better job with the way it wraps long lines. :sarcasm:

Let me hear about yours :)

I've been using PhpStorm for a little while for my PHP projects, which extends the WebStorm IDE. It's got some pretty neat features that can be very useful, like being able to write selectors instead of actual tags, which are then expanded into the tags. (Look at the video in the What's New page if that doesn't make sense.)

My favourite IDE is Kate on linux. I have used for many years and can used for many languages, with auto-complete. Very fast and easy to set up, and if you ever decided to use another language, you do not know have to change IDE

I love Notepad++ but then again i guess it depends on what programming language you are comfortable with as there is many editors out there to cater for many needs. :)

You can use Alt-dot (period) to close an HTML tag. I think there may also be a package to auto-close tags, but you'd have to search. Zen-Coding is an alternative.

The Soda themes are very popular in ST.

I use Sublime Text, but am a huge fan of Komodo Edit as well. Merging both would be ideal :bananaman:

I wasn't aware this even existed, lol. Thanks! I'll definitely check it out for my PHP Frameworks! ^^

I've only used Ubuntu 12.04-12.10 and Linux Mint 14 so far. I like their default text editors (Geany and Pluma), though I wish they had just a little more features into them. They were great for small projects, but they drive me crazy when things get a little bigger, lol.

Kate, I haven't tried... Will check it out next time I get my hands on a Linux.

I totally agree. :rockon:/> I mainly use HTML and CSS. But I also get myself into PHP and JQuery quite a lot, and Notepad++ seems to meet 98% of all my needs.

I am a long time user of Notepad++ and currently have their "End of the World" edition. I use it for js, php, html/css and sometimes with Python or Ruby.

:)

lol, yes. I find it rather funny how it's called End Of The World Edition considering the time it was released, lol.

Notepad++ is a really great text editor.

If ST2 had some of the features of KE

My HTMLAttributes completions for ST, available via PackageControl, are quite popular :bigsmile:/>. Just type one or two letters for an (HTML) attribute and press Tab.

I love Vim. It's very extensible and quite a force to reckon with.
