So, answer the poll, but try to give a reason in a reply. Also, I just took the most popular shells I could with a quick search. If your favorite shell is not listed, select other and enlighten us. I'll start.

I prefer bash, for a few reasons.

• it is often the default shell on many linux distributions.
  
• it is common. It is available on most versions of linux, bsd, and unix flavours as well, including solaris (the default shell, finally, in solaris 11), AIX, and HP-UX.
  
• My only other real shell interactions have been bourne shell, and korn on AIX and HP-UX, which I didn't like too much

I voted ksh because I can vi edit right on the command line.

Same. bash is pretty much all I've used. I've used zsh as well, but I don't have enough experience to say if it was worse or better.

Bash mainly because it is simple and available on both Linux as well as OS X by default.

Edit: One can set Vi mode in bash if they want to.

Count me in for bash as well. I'm not wild about it as a scripting language, so usually I'll fail back into perl for anything complex, but as an interactive shell it's really pretty excellent.

So my question is: what's your second-favorite shell? Or maybe it would be better to ask, what shell would you be most interested in learning if you were to pick up another?

There is, but it's not very useful. emacs mode is actually much more powerful. So you see, even emacs is good for something!
