Do you honestly believe it's a good buy for $200? I recently purchased it, and I like it so far. I am just extremely annoyed it does not support Java. I cut down from major gaming such as World of Warcraft so it's good. The day before, my fan gave out, and so did my motherboard for my HP Laptop, and there was no point in getting it fixed noted it would cost over $100, and the company (HP) was going down. Now I game on my Xbox 360, the Chromebook is just like an iPad 2 (which I have) just the feel of a laptop, plus you don't need to download different Apps just to use Flash. I go on Facebook, and play a couple flash games also.

If you already have stuff that can do all of the things that your chrome book can do plus more,, then why have the chrome book?

The ability to do things is not the most important part, but how it does those things. For instance, an iPad can be used to browse DIC, but it's not half as convenient for writing long posts than, say, a netbook. A smartphone can be used to play games, but depending on the type, it won't be half as much fun as playing it on a PC or a gaming console.

I believe the question can easily be answered by asking a single question: Are you a computer scientist/engineer?

If yes, then no, you won't enjoy a chromebook.

I have a friend who interned for Google last summer and they made them use chromebooks. He says it is basically a crippled version of Linux. Your terminal is used for pinging things and opening ssh connections, but Google advises against using the terminal's ssh client as it is buggy or something along those lines. The filesystem doesn't allow you to create directories, in fact you can only access the downloads folder. Basically, you are spending $200 for a web browser.

I've tried my friend's chromebook and disliked it immensely. For people that only use their laptops for browsing the web and documentation such as reports for school and whatnot, it'd be perfect for them. For people like me, no, it's not my cup of tea that's for sure.

Well, my HP died on my as I said above, and this was the only laptop I could afford. It'll do for a while. I can still program at school.
