Aaand you probably just committed copyright theft for pasting an article being commercially "sold"...
Nah, I'm just being sarcastic. The article actually doesn't say much I haven't read people write already through the ages.

Backup plans and multiple sources of income are more important than ever. Gone are the days of having a career with one company, for most people.

I'm 23 and have three jobs - three sources of income. Couldn't agree more with farell. Thank God I chose a career that suits my personal aptitudes well and allows me to work remotely.

I tend to disagree with the article, a typical developer would start his career junior level - typical college grads, or less experienced in the industry. The idea is to evolve into a mid-level developer as your domain knowledge increases. After a few years, you move up to a senior level developer - mentoring the young, becoming more involved in decision making processes and working your way up to a software architect. Many of these architects are mid 30's - 40's and older.
Sure you wont be a junior developer anymore, but after a certain point in your career why do you want to make $50k when with all the domain knowledge and experience in the industry you should be making $80-$100k
TBH it was TL;DR so I probably am not even relating to the author, I read the first paragraph - but either way my point is older developers tend to hold better positions in the compnay - they write less code, but they are the ones who keep the software from dying a miserable death due to poor decisions by junior developers.
My company has a tier structure simiar to this with pay scaling accordingly.
Web Developer I
Web Developer II
Programmer Analyst I
Programmer Analyst II
Programmer Analyst III
Programmer Analyst IV
Software Engineer
Software Architect
IT Director
Director of IT/Development
Web Dev II, PA II and above are Mid-Level until Senior Software Developer
I am 35 and one of the younger developers in the company with the exception of contractors.
