that book looks OK, i will buy it, and what i meant buy "Why is OpenGL so complicated" was why can i seem to find no explanation of methods, thanks anyway

i am looking on amazon and there seems to be no up to date books on OpenGL and lots of the online tutorials on OpenGL 4 aren't very good

Yes it is. The reason why you think that it because you don't understand OpenGL. You don't get better than the actual docs.
You are looking for this magic pill that will hold your hand through learning OpenGL, and you are not going to find one.
You need to sit down, make your mistakes when trying to code and learn from them. If you cannot then games is not for you.

is seems that the directx api is more learner friendly so i am curious if it would be better starting there and going to OpenGL from there later on, and isn't direct used more in pc/xbox games?

One the Windows platform, yes.
You're going to come up against problems with DirectX too. It's important that whichever you choose you stick with it.

ok in that case i would much rather use DirectX because i think it is used on xbox 360/mostly on windows games, Thanks a lot though for the help.
