cout << hello world
Posted 20 January 2013 - 07:07 PM
I'm a newb, well not really. I have a pretty good general coding knowledge, acquired from
various languages. In the past 2 years though, it's slipped due to my procrastination.....well gaming lol. So with little C++ skills and experience I feel it's time to turn the games off and
get to doing some real work.
I'm here for a few reasons, most importantly to learn but I'd also like to meet a few like minded people, learn from them, ask questions and if capable provided answers. I plan
on going at this like a maniac, so you'll find me either in the tutorial section or dumping my code somewhere in the c++ section.
That's about it.....bye

wait if I was crazy I wouldn't know that I'm crazy so maybe I am crazy?

Anyway, I found your project post - you sir are a god among men, saves me
from thinking too hard myself. A quick question, what sub forum do I dump
my code in? The code I've written in response to your projects that is?

Welcome to DIC

Well, if you have the desire to learn, then DIC is the place for you to quench your thirst for knowledge...yes, in fact, I can guarantee you that you will certainly learn a lot over here

Well, on a humorous note, your title cout<< Hello World should be
cout<<"Hello World";
And there is an example of how to use code tags. Every time you post any code, please do so within the [ CODE ] tags, without space of course

Looking forward to seeing you around in the forums

regards,
Raghav

I'm....not....sure...If you're really trying to help, being sarcastic or just attempting to troll the new guy lol.
I know about bbcode + forum etiquette, I've been using them on/off for years, I know that's the correct way to use
cout was just unsure if the tittle could contain << " " ;
On a lighter night I've no doubt I'll see you around the forums

Thanks .Aaron nice to meet you.

Well, no...I was not at all trying to troll you. I only meant to say that since hello world is a string, it should be enclosed in " " in a cout statement or it would give errors.
Well, now that you have mentioned it, I am also doubtful if title can contain " " ; .
Nevertheless, I think you meant a lighter note in your last sentence

Well, good luck...I would also like to know what would happen if we use the " " ; in topic names...but make sure you post a valid topic...or it will be considered as trolling

If you meant the 'note' part, I guess I was being a bit too much of a grammarian there

I guess I was thinking of a "light night" whilst typing.
Also another guess, I doubt nothing visible will happen.... You might
however end up in a logfile somewhere for attempting to bypass php sanitation

I remember being in the same boat as well. We would constantly correct each other while speaking...and tell you what, that turned out to be very fruitful in later part of my life. I guess it was all those corrections which probably improved my English.

On a lighter note, I somewhat like being a grammarian...so much that I sometimes correct my own sentences, seconds after uttering them.

Well, I remember something like that happened to me a long time ago. I was replying to a text from my friend, and I don't know if I was really hungry at the time...coz this is what I typed....

@cppnewb: That would be interesting. But I'll hope for something visible. Just boring if you can;t see the results of your experiment.

Yes. I do remember reading a couple papers on it once, but for the life of me I can't remember the name of the phenomena. I'm drawing a blank, I'm sure it's neuro*** something something lol.
