Surely that species has upgraded the sensitivity of their thermal sensors to the point that some cold mud would no longer spoof it. I mean, the motherfuckers are capable of interstellar travel...

Less stupid? No. But at least accidentally figuring out how to notice double-digit differences in temperatures when using equipment designed to notice differences in temperatures? Yes, at least somewhere in the process of realizing interstellar travel, I think our thermal imagers would benefit.
