Or that edgy artist in Japan who got his kibbles and bits removed, froze them, and later had them prepared and served them to a select paying folk.

And that's why I have the rule that it has to look tasty.

As long as it tastes good, is not illegal, and won't harm me.

Legal is overrated.

I love a good steak tartar; technically not legal. Both due to the raw egg as well as the raw meat. Raw ain't even close to 155...

Raw milk and cheese is illegal in the US. There tends to be an active black market in the stuff around farm communities. Sometimes you'll find raw milk products legally sold as animal feed; nudge, nudge, wink, wink.

I'll eat a Rocky raw egg smoothie if I want to, damn it.

Food that should be illegal and isn't; shark fin and several other fishes. Eating critters to extinction is absolute idiocy.

I'm not a raw food person, but I like basic food (Like just taking a tomato and eating it whole). However, I think people going out of their way specifically selecting raw food probably already know all the risks and stuff involved, so I don't see why there has to be these laws.

I'm with you on the fish thing. I'm not normally hopping up and down for protection of endangered species, but some ecosystems can get really crazy. Depending on what fish and where, especially if you rip a bunch of predators out of an ecosystem can have cataclysmic effects. Of course though it has to be the predatory animals that are either tasty or evil and everyone wants to shoot them.

You haven't really hunted until you've hunted a predator, especially one that's capable of killing you. I think it would be a spectacular experience to hunt a big cat in its own environment, especially somewhere like the jungle where it can get close without you knowing. But yeah, once you hunt a predator, birds and deer might as well be cows.

For some reason, that one book where the hunter hunts humans popped in my head from what you said.

Now, I doubt I'd ever eat 'raw' meat, but rare is my preference. I wish selling raw milk and cheese wasn't illegal. But I have one of the farms here able to sell me it, not sure how they put it down on paper, but boooy is it way better than that overprocessed shiz that they sell in stores.

um, I don't think there is just one book like that but you might be thinking of the short story "the most dangerous game". that's the one that comes to mind when I think about humans hunting humans

Raw milk and cheese is illegal in the US

Not entirely true as I understand it. You can buy it directly from a producer legally, the same way a cheese producer can buy raw milk to make cheeses. Likewise steak tar tar is perfectly legal if you make it yourself. The FDA only regulates sold for consumption food.

I believe you are all talking about the movie that book was based off of: 'Surviving the Game'.

True, but I was talking about ecology and over-hunting. You have a bunch of plants eaten by one herbivore, and then you have a bunch of herbivores eaten by their predators, and you may have additional layers on the food chain. You have a pyramid of consumed materials to support one predator. When you over-hunt the predators, it can cause a large shift in the system.

We're both wrong, I think. :P

As with many odd US legalities, it varies by state. Found a good map here. I'm in Jersey, so I can sneak to PA. Problem is, if I get caught transporting the stuff, I get thrown in jail. It's a felony!

Laws pop up every year to change that. Current status in NJ is still illegal, though.

The raw milk cheese I was thinking of is from France. I believe that is illegal in import on a federal level.

if you REALLY want to hunt a predator, you might as well hunt the real thing.
