GEEKY?!? WTH?!?

whatever...

but clancy and grisham and king all really good (king could be considered sci-fi;))

well any miaka doesn't know good tolstoy if it came up and bopped her one in the nose

tolstoy is different and hard to read like melville
death of ivan Illych, War and Peace,etc...

oh and for 'geeky' sci-fi read the Rama series only the best human drama series ever

also read asimov anything all good stuff

highly recommended is Phillip K. Dick
really awesome stuff

anna karenina...horrible? wth?

this coming from a guy whose favorite song right now is Keep Away

Well...I don't read.  I only like reading if the book is...well I don't know how to explain it...there's just something I look for books, Mission: Impossible (book) had it, The Giver had it...quite a few books had it...my main things to do are listen to music, bike rides, programming now, ummm, gaming (whenever my POS computer let's me play), reading into news (current events, technology, etc.).  And I think that's about it.

the thing i like Orson is that his sci-fi is really an analysis of the human condition.  a study on society.  i mean the cute little stories are good, but he teaches to.  very cool.  Tom clancy scares me.  his stuff usually is too right on for me.  i mean look at his new book: Bear and the Dragon.  hmmm... who'd you think we're gping to end up at war with with this afgan crap?  china and russia if we don't play our cards right.  but i think we've run this into the ground days ago.

you read 'classic' sci-fi and compare it to the way society is now?
man that's scary
(i.e. the marching morons, c.m. cornbluth
brave new world, aldous huxley
and almost 1984, george orwell

oh yea and the running man, (Stephen King?))

history repeats itself man.  with our system of alliances now as then we could have WW-III on our hands in no time.  thank goodness we've turned more toward covert ops and diplomacy than pointing fingers and shooting.

and yes.  if you read the ender series you can see that all the events... well not the literal events in the book but the broad spectrum of events that happened occur and are occuring just as they did in the book.  it's very eery.  people and societies really do act that way.

number one... I did say  I will read  war and peace to you like a thousand times.. but Anna Karenina was long, soap opera like and all through out the book I kept wondering...WHY DOESN'T ANNA KILL HERSELF ALREADY!! or end her story or something.. tis horrible.... and I'll go into more literary analysis detail.. if you ask me too.. but yeah....ANNA KARENINA really really boring...(besides the story about Levin)
