Like to protect your project (when it has been built) from getting copied.
Copyrighting it so it wont get copied...

What do you mean? Like including a license to prevent copying? Protecting your source code from copying?

@OP - you do know that 'copyright' is not the same thing as digital serial key/licensing system, right?

Well it is important to get your terms right. As for what you want .. there isn't a "click here and enable" option. You need to sit down and reason out a plan that works for you and your software.

Exactly, there are several different solutions that solve different problems. Some people use algorithmically created license keys, some people use server based authentication, some people just put up a screen asking people not to share.
Then there's the other side: reverse engineering. If you're worried that someone will decompile your code, use an obfuscator like Dotfuscator.

Another option is a hardware key. A dongle. If the security dongle is not present then the software won't run.

Preferably a LPT1 or parallel port dongle. None of those outdated fad USB ones.

I know modi123_1 is being funny - but I like the parallel port dongles because they have two screws to hold them in place. USB dongles tend to look like memory sticks so users will pull them out if they need a port then wonder why the software dies.
One the other hand, many add-on USB cards include an internal USB jack. So if you put the USB security dongle IN the PC with a lock on the cover (as you should in most work environments unless you like stolen memory) then people can't get to the security dongle.

All of this being said, the fact that you're asking this here is a pretty clear indication that this isn't something you're going to have to worry about for quite a while yet.
