Hows about this:

I'm guessing that ~90% of the population has never heard of Linux. Therefore, ~90% of the populations knowledge revolves around Windows or Macs, Windows moreso than macs because they're generally cheaper. Throwing in gods only knows which distro of *nix at them would just confuse them, especially the more barebones it is. All most office people want to do is point, click, and be done. They don't want to install their own shit, they don't want to fool with compiling, terminals, learning commands, etc. For the layman, Windows is easier, and works for like 99.9999% of the shit they need to do. Do they really want to fool with figuring out another, more complicated in most cases, OS? No, they just want to get their 8 hours of data entry and then facebook in an easy way, namely, something they're already familiar with. Could they do it in Linux? Most definitely, but why can't they use the system they are already comfortable with? Not to mention manhours wasted with training and letting them diddle with it to figure out how it works. Plus Windows seems slightly harder to screw up your computer catastrophically. It's a good balance of functionality and user friendliness that works for most people. So you don't like Windows. Oh fucking well, don't use it, but don't try to shove Linux down everyone's throats either. Linux just isn't for everybody, and that's okay.
