Re: Would you take this deal?

As I have yet to have encountered any software that I'd like to have but can't have because it runs exclusively on Win8 and not 7, I'll be standing pat until the market forces me to upgrade again.
I mean, heading over to MS' own feature list for Win8, there isn't anything there I want or need enough to plunk down dollars to get it. Don't use the mail or calendar (Thunderbird with Lightning plugin), don't use IE10, don't use either the Defender or Firewall, and don't use Office. I'd suspect it likely has some claimed performance upgrades over 7 but then again, I can still break open my desktop and toss an additional asston of RAM in there if things start to get sluggish.
Upgrading an OS is an enormous pain in the ass so unless there is an exceptionally strong reason to, I don't until I'm pretty much forced to.

Edit: By "Valve model" here I mean what they've done with TF2. Free to play, but you pay for the hats.
this is the worst idea ever.

Windows 8 bothers me a lot...
There are a few apps that do some kind of full-screen fuckery, and in full-screen, there is no red X, and alt-f4 has been redefined to be harmless and non-violent (IE, alt-f4 does not kill things like it should, it just opens a menu which does not have an option to kill without remorse, maim, or even tap on the shoulder!)
There's a free shell replacement that makes windows 8 a really ugly windows 7ish thing (mostly gutting that stupid dashboard with a freakin' scroll bar on it), but the full-screen apps still can't be killed in an obvious way, and sometimes when you're moving your mouse around in the 7 style list of related tasks (IE, dozens of open IE windows) it will switch magically to the full-screen app.
luckily, ctl-shift-esc still launches the task manager which still allows you to kill things.
All that nonsense just makes me love Linux even more. I wish I could hug stallman and torvalds while thanking them for saving me from that corporatarded crap.
