Not to be the cold hearted bitch here, but why is this so shocking? Is this the first time you've read the news in the last decade?

January 10th: Woman kills boyfriend's 2-year-old daughter by force feeding her chili powder until she went into seizures. [Link]

January 11th: 13-year-old boy, weighing 50 pounds, dies of head trauma. Siblings reveal dad beat the kid daily and kept him locked in a cage all his life. [Link]

I can find 8 million more if you'd like. It's horrible to be so desensitized, but it's almost a daily news item these days. Sure, it's horrible that it happened, but I would hardly call it "shocking".

Welcome to Mother Russia. Although I am from Ukraine which is adjacent to Russia, I used to get my ass beat by the babysitter if I did something she didn't like. So honestly it's considered somewhat a norm in my country; however this is something I would never do to my own child nor someones else.

If you ask how I know, well I am the oldest child and I have 3 brothers.

I read a while back that something like 1 in 9 people were psychically abused as a child, something like 1 in 7 people were sexually abused as a child, and about 1 in 13 woman will be raped in their lifetime. If I recall correctly the people in the studies about rape and abuse where children in the 90's and early 2000's so this isn't some issue of yesteryear.

Last statistic I saw (a few days ago) was that 1 in 3 women have been beaten or raped. So yeah, the world is kind of fucked up. Mind you, violence is pretty common across the board. I'm male, wouldn't call myself aggressive, yet I've been involved in about half a dozen physical altercations since high school. Most are the usual drunken idiocy, but one was a case of me being attacked by a gang (they didn't realise I had a spare bannister at hand - not at first anyhow).

P.S. That original video made me feel ill when I watched it, turned it off after about 15 seconds. Sorry B9, I'm one of those poor saps that hasn't been desensitised
