cannot figure out the floating code in css

I made trying to create a form where 5 custom dropdown lists need to be side by side across it but I can not figure it out. i have tried to float them and am not sure what i am doing wrong. Can some one please advise. Thank you

Well, it would be very helpful if you could post your appropriate HTML code here...along with your CSS...that will help us find out where the problem exists.

i'm pretty sure the best way is to use display: inline-block;, not the float property, but as raghav.naganathan already said: post your code.

since all form control elements are inline elements, that should be default behaviour.
