A subnet mask calculator. I had VB.Net a year ago at ITT and have done little programming since. The reason I wanted to program one is because I am in Networking at ITT and we were just getting into figuring Subnet Masks. I have written a couple of other apps for my own use with success.

Basic Calculator in VB.Net

Quote

I will be doing a 2nd part to this tutorial where I look at adding more advanced functionality to this calculator, such
as adding a number to memory, removing a number from memory, calculations with a number in memory and more.

I'm wondering when you will post this? I'm looking forward to it. :)

I have searched everywhere for something on making a custom scrollbar for a rich text box and have found nothing. I know how to change all of the main functions of a RTB in code, just mainly not the color of the arrows and slider, and perhaps making the slider a circle. I believe I have found code for almost every other control customization, and even some stuff on making your own controls, but they mostly deal with a regular textbox control.

If there is something specifically on changing the scrollbars in VB.2003, please let me know.

wow, Pyschocoder, you are a man in demand. :P

Someone already hit on it, but a vs05 / .net Sockets tutorial would be ace. I'm currently struggling with some UDP stuff, and everywhere I look for help spams me with C# or VB6. :(

If I ever get this UDP stuff working I'll do my own tutorial on using udp in .net, because I'm sure its not as easy as its supposed to be! :crazy:

I would like to see a tutorial for how to add an item to the hyperlink context menu in Internet Explorer 7. The specific item I'm interested in is similar to "Open in New Window" but I want the link to open in my home made web browser. I know how to use process.start to open the new instance, but I've never created a BHO or attempted to mod IE7, so all the stuff about BHOs doesn't make much sense. Not to mention most of it is in C++/C# or is 13 years old.

Even just some links to up to date methods of how to do parts of this would be a big help!

Never mind. It can be done like this:

Add this to the registry:
HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\MenuExt\Text You Want Displayed (as the name of a new key)

and

HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\MenuExt\Text You Want Displayed\file://Path to script file including the name and extention of the file (in the default string item that comes with the new key)

script file contents (.htm file)
[code]
<script language="javascript">

// Open the selected link in FireFox

var sURL = window.external.menuArguments.event.srcElement;

if (sURL!=undefined)

{

var WshShell=new ActiveXObject("wscript.shell");

WshShell.run("\"path to script (as short as possible)\"" + " " + sURL);

}

</script>
[\code]

Then receive the link this way:
[code]
Imports Microsoft.VisualBasic.ApplicationServices

Private Sub MyBrowserApp_Load(ByVal sender As Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles Me.Load
Dim StartUpUrl As String() = System.Environment.GetCommandLineArgs

On Error Resume Next

If StartUpUrl.Length >= 2 Then
MyBrowser.Navigate(StartUpUrl(1))
End If

End Sub
[\code]

Having been around the internet and all over dozens of forums, I'd say that I'd like to see a tutorial for beginners on vb .net & SQL 2005. Personally I think it would be good to learn the basics, such as all of the steps necessary to select, insert, update & delete, using vb .net code rather than the adapter objects that so many try to teach you to use by dragging and dropping them on a form. LOL... unless I get all of the information first, then I'll post it for you.

Thank you! Great point.
I'm in a beginner VB.Net course (on-line) at the moment and the book they supplied simply has me dragging and dropping from the toolbox. Frankly, I don't know what the heck I'm doing, but it sure looks good! :D
To add insult to injury, my first assignment is to create a mortgage calculator using Console Application! Unfortunately, the (very expensive) book they provided has NOTHING about creating a console application! I've simply had to look at posts from DIC members to see what's what.
Yeah, a simple tutorial for beginners, complete with all the basics would be great!
