Landing page centres in IE but not Firefox or Chrome

I'm a relative newbie to HTML, XML and CSS. I have created a simple landing page for a friends website using MS Word 2007. It all works fine except I cannot get the images centred in Firefox or Chrome but it works fine in IE. I've gone through the code and changed all the references that stated 'Left' to 'Centre' but it just doesn't work.

I've searched for solutions and tried advice to use <td> tags around the images and to use 'style="display: block; margin: 0 auto;"' for the images but neither or those worked for me.

I've also tried the code:
header{  
width:whatever the size is;  
height:whatever the size is;  
margin:0px auto;  
}


In all honesty I'm not even sure I'm putting this code in the right place or if it should replace code that's already there.

Any advice would be gratefully appreciated.

You should NOT USE WORD - it is the worst possible HTML editor. The HTML Validator shows 76 errors.

centre in HTML (and any other code) is spelt center.

I would start over using a simple text edit: Notepad first, then Notepad++. But if you are trying to do this without studying any HTML or CSS then you need to use a WYSIWYG editor.

first, please do not use MS Word for creating web pages. about 90% of that code is totally useless for HTML.

the problem with centering the image is not that the image is not centered in the table (there it is indeed centered), but that the table itself is not centered. and before you ask how to center the table. don’t. this whole mess (and a mess it is) is created from MS Word. for a reasonable layout you could just go for 3 <div>s

Kompozer is another WYSIWYG editor I believe, but I know little about these editors myself.

This will do nothing as there is no tag in your page with the name header. Random guesses are not going to get you very far.

Thanks for the fast responses - I think I need to start again as I clearly started off with the wrong application and used the wrong spelling for 'Center' - it's amazing what you can get wrong when you're merely guessing!

I will create a new page using something other than Word.
