Dreamincode tutorials as linkedin "publications"

Posted 27 February 2013 - 10:02 AM

For those of you using linkedin.com for professional connections, there is a "publications" option, that can be useful for filling out your profile, and looks good. Dreamincode tutorials are a good source to use for this, and may give us visibility as well.

I haven't thought about that, course I thought it was referring to papers that we have written that have been published by peer-reviewed magazines.

I think that section is probably intended for papers and books. But LinkedIn is social media for your CV. Why not use that section to show off tutorials to a prospective employer, especially if technical writing or training others is a part of the job.

Not a bad idea at all. However, I would be careful with what you say on the forum(s) if you are exposing your username (and all posts that come along with it).

When I get a persons resume I always Google them and their work and I have rejected individuals that posted some pretty weird stuff online. Not only that, but I found a number of people giving that person negative reviews, etc. All in all I decided it wasn't worth bringing them on site for an in person interview.

So do it if you are certain your online portfolio is clean and nothing can be dug back to you that you don't want being found. I am not saying you have been up to no good, but remember we all say and do stupid things as kids and if by chance someone can trace back a post from years ago to your account... it reflects negatively on you.

1) If you need to, sanitize your online portfolio

or

2) Start a new account and keep it clean and professional

Ok, give me your resume or contact information (as if you were applying to a job). Let's see what I can dig up. :)
