Programming Tutors Required

Posted 28 February 2013 - 02:12 PM

So before you get your hopes up, this is NOT paid.
This is for experience and to help others learn.

The idea is to create a YouTube channel that allows people to learn a variety of different things, from different people (We all have different learning styles and teaching techniques).

We all know that there are plenty of tutorials out there, and I'm sure we all know that a lot of it is pretty much the same thing.

Hello World
Create a button
Blah blah blah

And that's all well on good, but it would be nice to be able to go to one place, and learning everything you want, with the choice of different languages, IDE's, Frameworks (Or whatever).

How it would work
I would create a list of people, all with there skills. If there are multiple people of the same skill, I would ask them to work with each other.
Then I would want a series planned out, so for example
There could be 3 people who know C# WPF, they would work together to plan a series on C# WPF.
With that, I could get a big list of series' and then create a schedule for when the videos need to be created, who by, and when the individual video will be released. (I'm sorry if this doesn't make too much sense, explaining isn't my best feature.. Maybe I should have put this all in an if statement)

With that, there would be a website and forum. (The website is currently being designed)

What do you get from this?
Well well, let me tell you..
You will be working with a bunch of different programmers, discussing, planning.. Plotting. You could pick up knew techniques, learn a new language, or just make a new friend.
It could be very good for your CV, I have my YouTube and I'm fairly certain that's the reason I got my job (Junior Software Developer).
You get cake! Well, you don't, but you love cake, don't ya :3

I currently have 3 people with me, and would like more.
There are no age restrictions, of course.

I know I haven't got it all planned out at the minute, but I'm just trying to get people with me, so I can work on it with a team to create a great place for learning (:

If you're interested, or know somebody who is, please let me know.

Thank you for your time,
Niall

No ads.
I guess if the channel got big, I would have to try sort something out. But that's a future problem.

So basically you want people to spend a load of time creating video tutorials for nothing at all? In an ideal world that may work, but in this one I'm not so sure.

Believe it or not, there are people out there that would like to share their knowledge.
People volunteer all the time, for experience and maybe sometimes out of the kindness out of their hearts.

Fortunately not everybody in the world is greedy and selfish. That's what makes me believe I can get people to help out.

Think about it as an investment. You can sometimes learn a lot more working with people than you can reading a book. And if it does take off? Great, money.

This is the part that waxes one cynical...the "greedy and selfish" ones are the ones that take more than their fair share, which means everyone in the eyes of everyone else except the ones who truly don't give a damn about money because they live in the woods or someone is paying their freight. That's why we have business plans and contracts and things. Then we know who the real greedy and selfish ones are ahead of time, and can keep them honest.

Yes, we know. That's how sites like this one works. People are volunteering their time and their knowledge to help others gain experience.

I can see how much time this would take up and so I'm not signing up for it, but I wish you good luck finding those people.

So I kinda forgot about this post, I'm still looking. So I hope a boost isn't frowned upon.

Again, thanks to whoever thinks of helping.

Hi oyyou,

I'm a Javascript / PHP developer and, believe it or not, I actually like your idea. The Web was a great place for me to learn and I kinda owe most of the things I know to the kind people on the internet who decided to share their knowledge with everybody else for free. I think this would be a perfect opportunity for me to give something back to the community that helped me become who I am.

So, you can count on me. Btw, I'm currently in college so I don't have a lot of free time, but I think I could contribute with 1, maybe 2 videos per week.

Regards,
Stefan

Hey Stefan,

That's great! There is currently nobody with Javascript or PHP skills (:
If you'd like to add me on Skype, we could talk more and I could ask of things from you :3
My username is "Oyyou91" and I'm generally on at night (Because that's how programmers work!)

Bump bump :3
The search is still on. There are a few more now than when I started.
Once I have enough people, I think an introduction to the team may be required (Via video!)

Can you post the link to the channel once you get started? Depending on the language, i would watch them.
