Assistance with bootloader/bootable please

Hello there readers! I am currently making my own Operating System, not for school just for a personal time killer. Anyways, I am having the worst time to turn my flash drive into a boot-able one. After using PartCopy and Rufus I just went to making a Virtual Floppy Drive so I can test it and focus on a boot-able device later. When that didn't work, I just read a few tutorials with no progress I decided to come here. If anyone can help me with either making my Flash Drive boot-able or making a virtual floppy that would be awesome. Thanks in advance.

If its not too much trouble, another question. How do I use my custom OS's bootloader with VirtualBox?
