Yeah, I knew I wouldn't see it just from the soda loss. I forgot to mention I have been still doing my regular exercise and I ran a lot more last week than I have been recently. Anyway, I know I won't see results in a week, just wanted to mention I gave up Dr. Pepper which has been at least a one a day habit for about as long as I can remember. I just want this last little bit of my belly that sticks out past my chest to go away.

Can't hurt to remove a few hundred calories of sugar daily, for sure, but metabolism is a weird thing. It's not static - it changes with your levels of consumption and work. My gut instinct (sorry) suggests that it's a lot easier to stop putting on extra belly than to get rid of it once it's there. So cutting out the soda will keep you from growing steadily stouter, but in itself it doesn't get rid of the previous years of consumption.

It's frustrating: we want the body to be a simple machine, and it just doesn't play along.

EDIT: not to be discouraging here, mind you. it sounds like you're doing a lot of regular exercise, so I'd be surprised if you weren't seeing some shrinkage in the course of, say, the next year.

I do the Spartacus workout Monday, Wednesday and Friday, run Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday (5-25km depending on my mood, usually 10km) and go to Karate on Sunday. I also do 10 minutes of skipping as soon as I wake up and a further 10 minutes of skipping after tea (The last meal of the day).

Whoever recommended the couch to NHS's couch to 5K podcasts, I also second that, I used them to start running and they were great!

Due to having to come in an hour later to work this week I have been getting up and running in the mornings. We are having freak July rainstorms all week so Monday morning I got soaked while running. The last two morning have just been at 100% humidity so it has been a sweat fest. I have also been working toward 100 pushups in at least 4 sets. Last night I got up to 95. 3 sets of 25 and the last one I could only get 20 before I couldn't lift myself anymore. Sunday night I got to 90 so a slight improvement.

So my kid has decided to quit her karate classes ("It's just too hard and you have to memorize too much stuff and I don't want to do it anymore!" Translation: "I took a nasty shot to the face in sparring class last week, cried for two days, and decided to quit altogether.")...

However, with her quitting karate, I lose my gym and my Krav Maga classes (no one to watch the 10-year-old means momma doesn't get to do her thing).

This will save me almost $2,000/year... but... I lose my gym and my gym buddy!! :cry2:

Additionally, doing the whole legitimate dating thing has led to a lot more dining out which is making it considerably harder to maintain my new waistline without the gym membership... might be time to start suggesting hikes and bike rides and swimming with a picnic lunch-type dates...

And I wonder... if I buy the kid new sparring headgear with a face guard... would that change her decision??

Hmm.... things to ponder...

You could train her by repeatedly punching her in the face and then giving her a reward, like $5.

Tempting, but it's not worth listening to the crying.

you could just make her do it or pick some other activity she wants to do to replace it because life is hard.

I have started going out walking again to build up a routine again. I'm back up to walking 2.2 miles before my knee decides it doesn't want to work no more. I'm hoping in a week to be up to 3.5-4 miles and plan on starting the C25K in 2 week. I've also started adding in some basic weight training and such with the limited equipment my apartment complex has. I've droped 12 lbs so far in the 2 weeks I've been at it.
