What are you working on this week?

Posted 13 August 2007 - 08:56 AM

I've got 5 reports to create for one of our financial systems and re-creating some surveys in a new web based application we're using.

What are you doing this week?

adding functionality to the credit memo generator and cleaning up code. The code base is a huge mess. should take a while.

Rewriting a module in our application that registers incoming and outgoing contacts, and nobody understands at the moment how does it work - due to messy codebase, perv design (the possible combinations of different contacts, results, and future actions (even 2nd and third) are partly stored in a db, partly in a nodetree hardcoded in Java, and some modifications are injected in a request handler, let alone spurious session variables and paramteres - it's a real J2EE Ctulhu) so from now on this whole shebang will be configurable in an XML file and hopefully our business analysts will take care of it.
In my sparetime I am finishing a project that scans ads from newspapers, OCRs 'em and retrieves information that is loaded into a database.

At work this is my week to man the Help Desk tickets for the Development Team (loads of fun), but in my "spare" time (if it exists) I am adding new functionality to the GDS system we use internally, which communicates with airlines for booking flights, reserving seats, issuing tickets, requesting special services, etc.

At home I am working on a Database Management thinggie

I love the use of "thinggie" to describe a project. I should use it more around here to see how much the users love it.

Testing the final live builds of our latest customer's games. Writing a C#/ASP .Net log for the status of our sites. Planning a new market for our products that might reap rewards as we are the only people doing it.

Fighting Tripp-Lite to the death to get this fuckin RMA approved for a 3800VA On-Line UPS that went bad.

Formatting a couple older win 2k boxes that we're no-longer using.

Setting up an SNMP card in another UPS, and updating the firmware on another.
