Finally writing a linux bash script I have been putting off for some time. I figure if I am gonna be stuck for here for a while I will do as much stuff as close to programming as I can get. Worst case is I automate myself out of a job.

Untangling a godawful mess of PHP, hoping to have it committed for the build this afternoon.

Also, screwing around with imaplib, so I can get around the office restrictions on access to email sites and see incoming messages on my gmail account. Sssh, don't tell anyone...

Database/SQL home work for Uni for the last 7 hours, busy very busy indeed. Always finish the day with a bit of gaming for an hour or two. Then i repeat the same the next day.

Re: What are you working on today?

Winter was rough on the ol' grill (stupid rocks), and after the weather evened out I picked up a new grill for my car. According to the dealership OEM would have been 200ish, install another 75, and some stupid amount to paint match to my car color. I chuckled, said 'sure', and hung up. I couldn't find a a nice replacement for my color and just decided to chrome out mah grillz as an alternative (though the flat black seemed.. interesting).

I snagged the grille for a hundo (free shipping), bolted the two pieces together, pulled out the old grill, popped in the new, and was done in about ten minutes.

In the end - fifteen minutes of internet comparison shopping, a hundred dollars, and ten minutes to install. All and all a solid deal (versus darn near five hundred bucks and some time for a shop to paint match/paint the damn thing).

Funny though - once I popped my hood a few of the other male neighbor folk sauntered on out and were peppering me with questions along the lines of: "So you work on cars? I have this problem XXX and do not know where to start - can you help me out bro?". (Sound familiar?) Gave some advice, poked and prodded around under a few hoods, and tried to impart that basic car lessons.

Things like - cars are not big scarey things. If you brakes sound like they are grinding metal on metal they probably are.. if you are going through a jug of antifreeze a week then get that shit fix. Having electrical issues - check the fuse panel first. Oil changes are not recommendations.

Mostly I ended up telling them to go spend the fifteen bucks for a Chiltons or a Haynes manual for their car. See where things line up, read the repair instructions, and google the problems. Shockingly you can do some of the more basic work for super duper cheap, with a minimal amount of tools, and have a better idea if you are getting scammed later.

Hurray for me.

I'm in one of those moods where I just want to start something new, anything really. I always have ideas, perhaps too many, which is usually my problem. I need more focus. One finished project is worth a million unfinished ones, I think.

Committed and tested a fix that I've been looking for for about six months. Turns out it was dead simple, once I figured out what I needed to do. Go me!

Now, I'm going to spend the rest of the afternoon playing my new concertina and reading - not at the same time, though.

I am working very hard to change the direction of the day from being one of "those days" to something better, but the world seems hell bent on fighting that.

It started with leaving for work early, getting stuck in traffic with two separate accidents a mile apart, and subsequently being late to work by five minutes.

*sigh*

I have a smattering of people emailing our 'optout' email box with narry a clue of what they want to opt out from. The emails are just a subject line 'optout' and an empty body.

*groan*

Now an email I sent yesterday to a manager in my office to correct some data on their end just wrapped around - back to me - for the fix. Even with a phone call with further clarification to the person I think who would fix this will probably result in an email chain back to me.

*double sigh*

Yesterday was a push on trying to tackle this project I wanted one by tomorrow, but Monday was a flurry of 'high-er-est-er work".. I don't think today will be any better.

Oh, and Lotus 1-2-3 is no more.
