RetroN 5

Posted 27 March 2013 - 05:58 PM

Well hells bells.. if this actually pans out it should be greeted with open arms and twenty one cartridge blow salute!

Quote

The RetroN 5 will have 5 cartridge slots allowing you to use original NES, SNES, Genesis, Famicom, and Game Boy Advance cartridges. You will also be able to use Super Famicom, Mega Drive, Game Boy Color and Game Boy cartridges as well. Because we have created a new chipset, it allows us to ensure that region locks and compatibility are no longer an issue, and the RetroN 5 will play both PAL and NTSC cartridges. CIC lockout chips and FX chips are no longer going to be an issue, as we aim to achieve 100% compatibility with all cartridges.

The RetroN 5 will allow for manual and passive overclocking, giving the users the ability to speed up or slow down their games as they see fit. This option will be available on our GUI,

Most games did not allow for you to freely save your games. The RetroN 5 will allow you to save their games at any point during gameplay, and will feature an autosave feature upon shutdown. You will be able to load your saves at anytime during gameplay.

I may have to start swinging through the used game shop and start stocking up on all my old games that I never beat. Ghost and Goblins, Rush'n Attack - I am looking at you!

Ghost -N- Goblins alright, I still haven't beaten that with an emulator and rom. I like this idea but that controller already pisses me off, if we can use original controllers or program our own this machine will save me quite a bit of space.

@Nykc - Per that first link:

Quote

Along the sides of the console, are controller ports for the SNES, Genesis, and NES, totalling 6 controller ports, allowing for users to use their original controllers. Users will also be able to use any controller they desire for any system. That means, if you want use a SNES controller to play Genesis games, the RetroN 5 will allow you to do so.

Same here.

Still have them all.

And I'd rather not have to dig through the mountain of cartridges I have.

So emulation it is.

It's kind of my collection.

And shipping would probably cost a few hundred bucks.

I have a very large collection. Like multiple bookshelves full, several boxes full, and then more just scattered about the place. I've debated getting rid of them now and again... but the hoarder inside of me won't allow it.

Instead I just accept the fact that as the years go on, games "go missing" randomly. And I just shrug it off as my collection slowly dwindles.

At least I've stopped buying old games.

Just last night I was looking at my gold zelda cartridge and super metroid cartridge pondering what I could ebay them for and decided "fuck it, I'd rather buy a console to run them on" lol

WOOO! This is awesome and exciting
