I'm evaluating the use of ASP.NET Web API as a 'core technology' for a LOB webapp.

I'm under the impression that it is only really more useful than 'vanilla' MVC 4 when you plan on serving multiple platforms. If the application is a single responsive website (not an SPA), then having 'broad compatibility' (and processing overhead) from the Web API framework is largely useless. Is this correct?

NOTE: the application will be web only indefinitely. Absolutely no plans for expansion.
