checking if user input is correct

Hi! My program is a memory game similar to a Nintendo DS game named Brain Age. My program flashes 30 words and gives the user 2 minutes to memorize all of them. Then the user is given 3 minutes to type as many words from the shown list. The 30 words are contained in a text file called 4 letter words.txt which is attached in this post.

What I lack: My program should also be able to check if the words entered by the user are correct/valid(meaning the words entered by the user should also be words that are on the 4 letter words.txt file). Every time the user enters a correct word, the correct word entered should be printed onto the userInputTextArea.

Can anyone please show me how to do this? What should I add to my code? I really do not have any idea. thank you in advance!

You were smart not wasting your time writing swing by hand. It's a losing battle that gains you nothing but lost time. FXML is the only thing I'd bother writing by hand. In any event, what I would do is take all of the words from your file, because there are not a lot of them, and put them into a list, converting each to lower case. Then you take the user's input, convert it to lowercase and simply do a:

if(wordsList.contains(input)) {
  textArea.setText(input);
}



You read he file with a FileReader and get input with Scanner. You can find examples by searching these forums, or checking out the Java tutorials section. People have explained it all 100x.
