Problem installing Apache

Posted 03 April 2013 - 05:34 PM

Hello I am having some difficulty getting my localhost to say "It works". I install Apache and I know something is wrong during the install because I tried IIS and the localhost shows the IIS symbol. What do I need to do for a proper install?

If you've got iis installed and it's listening on port 80, apache wont be able to listen on port 80 also. Check out the link below for how to set the default apache port.

http://httpd.apache....s/2.2/bind.html

Hope this helps.

If you have IIS installed along with Apache then IIS commandeers port 80. It is simplest to accept this and change the port that Apache uses to someother (81?). This means that you would target your Apache server with:

localhost:81/yoursite.php

I haven't got the details to hand but a search of "change apache port" or "change apache default port" should yield results. Added: Takk has provided a link.
